Using Email Marketing to make money

In todays economy you may be looking for some ways to make some extra income. One of the methods is to start an online business. If you have done a fair amount of research, then you must have heard the old saying, “the money is in the list”?

What does this mean? The marketing power of an opt in email list can be compared to your personal atm machine that generates money for you whenever you choose… once you know how to use it correctly.

Here is what you will need for email marketing.

1. Domain name and hosting account
2. Create landing page
3. Autoresponder service, like aweber, getresponse
4. Digital products

    Your Own Landing Page

In email marketing, you collect your visitors’ email address through the use of a landing page. It is a page that you can quickly and easily design with simple web editors. Your primary goal with your landing page is to get the email address and the name of your visitor.

You do this by trading something of value for their contact info. This can be a free report, or ebook. It is vital that you design a landing page that is able to convert your visitors into subscribers. Your giveaway must be so valuable and enticing to them that they are willing to sign up to receive it.

    Autoresponder

Other than a landing page, you will also need to have an autoresponder service. An autoresponder is an automated email delivery tool. It sends programmed messages at specified intervals of time to recipients that are loaded into it.

Although, you can choose to manually deliver your email, but imagine if you were to have 500 or 1000 subscribers, you would not want to waste time sending emails out yourself.

When you are writing emails, put yourself in the shoe of your subscribers. Most people are not interested in having an advertisement in their inbox every day. So you need to give out useful, informative content, tell them about a new product, teach them how to do something and so on.

How frequent should you send out your emails? That depends on individuals. Most people wait 4 to 5 days before sending out the next email.

    Getting Traffic

Once you have your landing page up and running, you should start to advertise and promote your webpage. Similarly, there are many methods to drive traffic to your landing page.

These methods can be categorized into paid traffic and free traffic. Example of paid traffic are pay-per-click advertisement, banner and text-link advertisements. As for free traffic, it can be submitting article to directories or joining an online forum. The main objective is to get targeted traffic, who are willing to spend money on your digital products.

    Digital Products

Looking for a digital product is easy as you can just go to Clickbank, Paydotcom or CommissionJunction and search for items related to your email marketing subject. Example if you are writing emails about yoga, then your digital products will be about yoga. Do pick a product that is selling moderately, so that you will not face many competitions.

On the whole, email marketing is about building a long-term and trustworthy relationship with your subscribers. It is a bi-directional fulfilment, where you understand and satisfy your subscribers’ needs. In return, they will become your loyal customers. In time to come, if you were to start an online business empire, your subscribers could turn into your army of affiliates.
