Tips For Starting A Membership Site
As the internet expands, people will exploit niche markets by creating digital products that provide relevant information. But instead of creating a product and selling it for a one-time fee, it is far better to set up a membership website and generate a recurring income.
Nowadays, paying for information online has become a norm. Newspapers charge to access their article archives. A number of membership associations charge to access their membership lists. Similarly, there are membership subscription websites which charge to access the “insider” information.
Here are some tips for you if you intend to launch your own membership subscription website.
1. Pick a niche market with which you have some experience and credibility. Your audience is paying for your expertise and insight, so trying to fake it will not work.
2. Talk to members of your target market and evaluate their enthusiasm for providing content they want online. You may find out that they would prefer the delivery of the content via a different medium.
3. Determine the size of your market. Are there already some products and services available for this market? What is your unique selling point that sets you apart from others offering a similar product or service?
4. Is the information you are providing readily available offline? If it is, people may not be willing to pay a monthly or yearly membership fee to access the information.
5. Do not think of a membership subscription website as a “get rich quick” effort. It will take 8-12 months for you to develop the content and then launch the website, and at least another year to build your membership and begin showing a profit.
Do create your business plan and do the research up front before you embark on the journey to start a membership site. If you can capitalize on your expertise, you can earn a residual income and generate consistent profits month after month on autopilot.
