SEO tactics revealed part 4
This is part four of SEO tactics revealed. This time Brad Callen released some tips on how to get your website listed on the top position of Google search result page. He used the technique of offpage optimization. If this method is properly used and optimized, it will make a big difference in your website ranking.
Offpage optimization basically consists of the following factors.
1. Which websites link to you.
2. The number of websites linking to you.
3. The Google page rank of the website linking to you.
4. The page title of the website linking to you.
5. The anchor text used in the link linking to you.
6. The number and type of links linking to the website that is linking to you.
7. The number of outbound links on the website that is linking to you.
8. The total number of links on the website that is linking to you.
9. Whether or not the websites linking to you are deemed by Google as an authority website.
Brad suggests that in order to be ranked in the first position, we have to copy exactly what the top ranking websites did and we do things slightly better. That is what we want to give to Google. The keyword “diet pills” will be used as an example to show you how to achieve offpage optimization.
First, we need to collect information from the top 10 ranked websites. You can use Microsoft Excel to tabulate the information.
What we need are:

- Linking Website
- Anchor Text used
- Page Rank
- Link Popularity
- Page Title
- Number of Outbound Links
As an example, go to Google search engine and enter the keyword “diet pills”. Visit the top 10 websites for this keyword and gather the information above. It is preferred to use one Excel sheet for one website.
Here, I have included a description of the following phases.
Linking Website: the specific website linking to the #1 ranked website in Google for the term “diet pills”. In this case, it is www.weight-loss-institute.com/diet_pills.htm.
We want to find out all the websites that link to www.weight-loss-institute.com/diet_pills.htm so here is what you can do.
At Google search, enter this command:
link: www.weight-loss-institute.com/diet_pills.htm
You can also do this on Yahoo search:
link: http://www.weight-loss-institute.com/diet_pills.htm
This way, it will show us the number of backlinks for the #1 website in Google.
Anchor Text: the actual text used within the link linking to the specific website.
Page Rank: the actual Google Page Rank of the webpage linking to the #1 website. You must have Google Toolbar on your browser to see the Google Page Rank.
Link Popularity: the measurement of inbound links to a particular webpage by search engines. It tells you how many websites are linking to yours.
Page Title: the title of the page that is linking to www.weight-loss-institute.com/diet_pills.htm. If the websites, which we searched in Google, use similar keywords as ours, we should try to get them to link back to our website.
Brad mentioned that getting links from the webpages that contain our main keyword in the page title is extremely powerful and is something many people often overlook.
Number of Outbound Links: the number of links located on the webpage linking to www.weight-loss-institute.com/diet_pills.htm. The less links located on the page, the more a link from them would increase you ranking.
The last part that Brad talked about is to do some calculation. After we have collected all the data, we will need to calculate the percentage of websites that contains the keywords “diet pills”, “diet” or “pills” in the page title. Similarly, we will calculate the percentage for the actual anchor text linking to www.weight-loss-institute.com/diet_pills.htm.
Then we will follow these numbers as closely as possible to optimize our webpage. Once this is done, we need to contact each of the top 10 websites individually and ask them if they will add our link to their website in exchange for us adding their link to ours. Let them see the benefits of them linking to our website.
